Healing and Nature

Healing and Nature

From the tiniest microorganisms to the grandest mountains, nature is a source of endless fascination and wonder.

God has given us an amazing landscape -- Earth.

The seasons allow us to grace different aspects of nature and its beautiful blooms. The sweet sounds of raindrops when it rains. The bursting sunshine and the happiness that comes along with it. In spite of our emotional wounds, if we look around us there is much to be thankful for.

When you think about God what comes to your mind? While we humans have come up with ways to describe God. Still, within one hundred years we wouldn’t be able to comprehend the awesomeness of His being - and the Trinity (his family). Suffice to say, He is the creator of all things. Including beautiful nature.

I am a beach girl and love the relaxing qualities of gazing out into the smashing tossed waves. I'm a lover of the mountains with its majestic, rugged, and authenticity of its structure. Not only is nature so beautiful. But it also gives us the opportunity to perform activities that brings fun into our life. Walking, swimming, hiking, biking, horseback riding, and going out on the waters' for boating with friends. Or to just be alone on the water.

Outside of its beauty, nature prompts us to consider other benefits. According to, Why It’s Important That We Value Nature by WWF. “It underpins our economy, our society, indeed our very existence. Our forests, rivers, oceans and soils provide us with the food we eat, the air we breathe, the water we irrigate our crops with. We also rely on them for numerous other goods and services we depend on for our health, happiness and prosperity.”

“Just being surrounded by bountiful nature, rejuvenates and inspires us.“

Why walking in nature is good for you.

No matter if you’re young or older, walking is good for us (if you’re able too). What better way than to do it in nature. AARP says it this way, 8 Great Reasons to Walk More by Barbara Stepko.

Here’s what you’ll learn: I’ve included a link for your reading.

Why is nature soooo relaxing.

I love this spin on it -- How Does Nature Impact Our Wellbeing? By the University of Minnesota “Being in nature, or even viewing scenes of nature, reduces anger, fear, and stress and increases pleasant feelings. Exposure to nature not only makes you feel better emotionally, it contributes to your physical wellbeing, reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production of stress hormones. It may even reduce mortality, according to scientists such as public health researchers Stamatakis and Mitchell.”

“A walk in nature, walks the soul back home.”

What is the most beautiful thing about nature?

Ahhh … and another overall take about nature is, according to this beautiful article, Beauty in Nature, by By Michael Popejoy, Fellow in the Department of Philosophy - Harvard. “In nature we observe growth and development in living things, contrasted with the static or deteriorating state of the vast majority of that which is man-made.

I couldn’t agree more. When I think about the sun, the moon, the rains, winter, summer, spring, fall season, and the winds that we can’t see. I bow to the supreme, intelligent spiritual being that put this all together for us – God, the Lord. References for the Genesis creation account and characteristics of God's being’ are found here...

God’s Creation Is Marvelous! By Jonathan Petersen of the Bible Gateway. Scripture source Psalm 19:1-6 (TLB) tells us that …

The heavens are telling the glory of God; they are a marvelous display of his craftsmanship. Day and night they keep on telling about God.

Reflecting on my earlier comment about beaches. Remembering a tranquil evening for me on Labor Day at Venice Beach, Ca (my all-time favorite beach). The sun was going down, hovering over the roaring crashing of waves. So beautiful and peaceful. I found a spot pretty much where there wasn’t a huge gathering of people. I sat there looking out as far as my eyes and mind would take me. The moment was salubrious. I was dealing with some un-happy feelings during that period in my life. And the beach was my first go to place to unwind. So, I wanted to share places to research to get an idea of the beautiful landscape our world offers. The below list. A smidgen of our beautiful nature places.

Milford Sound: Fiordland National Park, New Zealand
The Pitons: Soufriere, St. Lucia
Laughing Waters: Jamaica
Denali National Park & Preserve: Alaska
Three Gorges: China
Luberon Regional Nature Park: Ménerbes, France
Grace Bay Beach: Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands
Lake Louise: Banff National Park, Alberta
Grand Teton National Park: Wyoming
Lauterbrunnen Valley, Switzerland
Aare Gorge, Switzerland

Aren’t these places just breathtaking?! But wait! Please do not forget the beauty that surrounds us in flowers. Sunflowers (my favorite), beautiful shades of roses, wildflowers, marigold, tulips, hydrangea, water lilies, peony flower, lilac and others. But I want to add the everyday beauty that we take for granted. Friendships, eating a good meal. Have you ever thought about what comes into getting food to you?

From the farming aspects and its workers, the drivers that transport the food. The grocers' (retailers, wholesalers and suppliers). That make sure the food is as safe as possible. And the transportation used to get the food too you. Then there’s the everyday conveniences that we desire. Hot water and cold water, ways to prep our food and cook it, utensils to manage the food, plates, drinking glasses. All these things that most of us use daily. I know there are some people that don’t use the latter, but for the most part. We do. God gives the inventor of the simplest and complex thing the idea and process to bring this concept to life. So that we as humans can enjoy life a little better.

There is a wealth of beauty right before our eyes. And we don’t have to go to faraway places to find it (if you don’t want too). I’m learning to be thankful for all things good that aids us in enjoying our journey while here on earth. Yes, there is healing in nature.
